Samuel Catawba Lowry (died 1864) was a Confederate soldier who served, 1861-1862 and 1863-1864 with the 17th South Carolina Infantry, Confederate States of America, in Virginia and South Carolina. The collection includes a typed transcription of diary entries and recollections, with poems and brief essays, all by Samuel Catawba Lowry. The diary entries and recollections are vivid and detailed accounts of comrades and camp servants, soldiers' daily activities, hunting and fishing, nearby civilian conditions, marches, skirmishes, and battles. The essays include and The Right of the South to Secede from the North Are we Rebels?

Samuel Catawba Lowry (died 1864) was a Confederate soldier who served, 1861-1862 and 1863-1864 with the 17th South Carolina Infantry, Confederate States of America, in Virginia and South Carolina. Lowry was wounded at the battle of Second Manassas (Bull Run), 27-28 August 1862, and upon recovery, was discharged from the army for being underage.
